Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of mapi, the text-message matchmaking service operated by Mapier Labs Inc. ("Mapier," "we," "our," or "us"), and the mapi.social website (together, the "Service"). By texting mapi, giving us your number, or using the website, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to use the Service. By using it, you represent that you are 18 or older.

3. Text messages

mapi works by texting you. By giving us your mobile number and using the Service, you expressly consent to receive recurring text messages from mapi at that number, including messages sent using an automatic system. Message frequency varies with how much you use the Service. Message and data rates may apply, and your carrier is responsible for those charges. Consent to receive texts is not a condition of any purchase.

You can opt out at any time by replying STOP to any message. After you opt out, we will stop texting you. Reply HELP for help. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

4. How matching works

mapi uses artificial intelligence to read what you tell it and to derive signals from your conversations, like your interests, availability, and neighborhood. It uses those signals to match you into a group. When you are matched, mapi shares your first name and the interests you told it about with the other people in your group. Do not tell mapi anything you would not want a group of new people to know.

We do not run background checks, verify identities, or screen users in any way.

5. Meeting people offline

Hangs happen in the real world, with people you have not met before. You meet them at your own risk. Mapier does not supervise hangs and is not responsible for what happens at them. Use good judgment: meet in public places, tell a friend where you are going, and leave any situation that feels wrong. If there is an emergency, call 911. Mapier is not responsible for risks you take by meeting people offline.

At hangs, treat everyone with respect. Harassment, violence, discrimination, or any conduct that makes others unsafe can get you removed from the Service, and we may report unlawful behavior to the authorities.

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose
  • Harass, abuse, threaten, or harm other users, on or off the Service
  • Impersonate another person or lie about your identity
  • Use the Service to spam, solicit, or advertise
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any part of the Service
  • Use automated means to scrape or collect data from the Service
  • Interfere with the proper operation of the Service
  • Use another person's phone number to sign up

7. Your content

You keep ownership of what you send to mapi. You grant Mapier a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to use, store, and process your messages and the information you share in order to operate the Service, including sharing your first name and interests with your matched group as described above. You are responsible for what you send.

8. Intellectual property

The Service, including its design, features, code, and branding, is owned by Mapier Labs Inc. and protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works based on the Service without our written permission.

9. AI limitations

mapi is an AI. It can misunderstand you, make mistakes, and produce plans that do not fit what you wanted. Do not rely on it for anything critical, and check the details of any plan before you show up.

10. Disclaimers

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR SECURE. WE DO NOT GUARANTEE THAT YOU WILL BE MATCHED, THAT ANY HANG WILL HAPPEN, OR THAT YOU WILL ENJOY THE PEOPLE YOU MEET.

11. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, MAPIER LABS INC. SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE OR FROM ANY INTERACTION WITH OTHER USERS, ONLINE OR OFFLINE. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY SHALL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID TO US, IF ANY, IN THE TWELVE MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM.

12. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Mapier Labs Inc., its officers, directors, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, or expenses arising from your use of the Service, your conduct toward other users, or your violation of these Terms.

13. Ending the Service

You can stop using the Service at any time by replying STOP to any message. We may suspend or end your access at any time for any reason, including violation of these Terms. When access ends, your right to use the Service ceases immediately.

14. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated Terms on this page. Your continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

15. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts located in San Francisco County, California.
